Chapter 13 – Move In
Before you can move in the final touches and cleaning need to be done. Have a checklist ready and do a final walk through. Once everything is done you can safely move in.
Make a checklist:
- What things still need to be done?
- Does everything work?
- What items were broken or defective and need to be replaced?
- Are you still waiting for something that is on backorder?
- Have all the inspectors been through?
- Is everything up to code?
- What do you need to do after they leave?
- Is the Champaign chilled?
Final Walk Through
- Do it with the Builder or General Contractor
- Do it with the Inspector
- Do it with your punch list of items in hand
If you decide to move in with a few items still unfinished make sure you keep the builder engaged:
- Set dates and times for his return
- Get the promise to return if a specific appointment cannot be set
- Make sure who have his current contact information including cell phone number
Keep all your paperwork (instructions, warranties, contracts and loan documents) in a safe place.
- You may need to refer to them if something goes wrong or breaks
- You will need them at tax time
- You will need them if you ever refinance or move
